Definition of the UTC Time Standard

International Standard Notation

Date: YYYY-MM-DD (Year-Month-Day) Time: hh:mm:ss (hour:minute:second).

Time Zone

Without the addition of a time zone suffix, any date/time displayed on a web site may be in an unknown time zone.

Since the introduction of an international atomic time scale in 1972, almost all existing civil time zones are related to Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). The date and time of this website page, when initially rendered:
  • 2020-01-28 00:32:20 UTC
The addition of a time zone suffix, such as UTC, allows any user to accurately convert this website's date and time into the user's local date and time, wherever they are in the world.
